Delhi-NCR has no shortage of security agencies advertising guards "starting from" attractively low rates. The problem is that price alone tells you almost nothing about whether an agency can actually protect your premises. Before signing anywhere, here are five things worth checking.

1. Valid PSARA Licensing Comes First

Under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005, every security agency operating in India is required to hold a valid PSARA license. Ask for the registration number and license details directly — a legitimate agency will have these on hand immediately, along with GST registration, PAN, EPF, and ESI registration numbers. If an agency hesitates to share this, that's a red flag in itself.

2. Transparent Statutory Compliance

A security guard's wage isn't just a flat number — it should break down into minimum wages as fixed by the state government, ESI and EPF contributions, weekly-off pay, and service charges, with GST handled under reverse charge as applicable. Ask to see how a quoted rate is structured. If an agency can't explain the breakdown, it's worth asking why.

3. A Real Selection & Training Process

Reliable agencies don't just hire anyone who applies.

  • Physical Standards: Minimum height, weight, chest measurement, and eyesight requirements for every recruit.
  • Education: A minimum education level, with relaxed standards for ex-servicemen and graduate requirements for supervisory roles.
  • Police Verification: Mandatory verification and fingerprinting before any deployment.
  • Training Facility: A dedicated, ongoing training programme — not a one-time onboarding session before guards are sent to site.

4. A Defined Emergency Response Plan

Ask what the agency's guards are actually trained and authorized to do in a crisis. A written emergency response plan for major sites is a good sign that the agency thinks beyond routine patrolling:

  • Firefighting response readiness
  • Strike and unlawful assembly handling
  • Coordination with police during incidents
  • Support for theft and crime investigations

5. Accessible Support After Deployment

Deployment is the easy part — oversight is where many agencies fall short. Look for a provider offering a single round-the-clock point of contact, along with a defined site-visit schedule and clear site instructions posted at every location.

None of this shows up in a brochure — it shows up in how an agency answers when you actually ask. A provider with proper PSARA licensing, transparent statutory compliance, a real training infrastructure, a defined emergency plan, and active post-deployment oversight is worth far more than the lowest quote in your inbox.
